European Pharmacists Forum hosts final seminar of 2011
The European Pharmacists Forum (EPF) today concluded its fourth seminar of 2011 in Monaco. The seminar, which took place at Hotel Meridien Beach Plaza, was attended by EPF members from across ten countries and also several guest speakers.
Over the course of two days, attendees were given the opportunity to listen to several speakers, as well as engage in a number of group workshops looking at key aspects of European pharmacy, including pharmacy service development. This was Dr. Andrew Lane's first seminar as President of EPF. On the first day, Andrew welcomed members and introduced Isabelle Adenot, President of the French National Order of Pharmacists, who spoke about the evolution of the French pharmacy sector and impact of the economic crisis. This was followed by a presentation by Jeff George, Global Head of Sandoz, on the progress and impact of biotechnological products and generics on the pharmaceutical business. Ornella Barra, Chief Executive, Pharmaceutical Wholesale Division, Alliance Boots, closed day one with an update on Alliance Boots and the significant role the Group plays within European pharmacy.
On the second day, Stefano Pessina, Executive Chairman, Alliance Boots, gave a presentation on the future of healthcare distribution which was followed by a Q&A session. The focus then shifted to EU policy and political developments led by Andrew Bonser, Director of Public Policy at Alliance Boots.
Dr. Andrew Lane, EPF President, commented: "Given the increasingly challenging economic environment, it is more important than ever for pharmacists across Europe to face the pressures on their industry together. As the new President, I am very focused on building upon the outstanding work the EPF has already accomplished and to work with pharmacists to achieve an even stronger collective voice. In turn, this will help drive the European pharmacy profession forward in these difficult times."
